  STOCTON — Harry DeWitt Jr. of Stockton died Sunday, Nov. 27, at Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Township. Born in Patterson, Mr. DeWitt had lived in Stockton since 1949. He and his first wife, Alice, operated DeWitt’s Grocery in Stockton from 1949 to 1955. Mr. DeWitt served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of the VFW, one of the founding members and a life member of the Stockton First Aid Squad, a member of the Stockton Fire Company, a member and past master of the Orpheus Lodge No. 137 F&AM, served on the board of trustees of the Sandy Ridge Cemetery Association and was the caretaker of the cemetery for many years. Mr. DeWitt was a police officer with the Hightstown Borough Police Department, past chief of the Delaware Township Police Department and retired from the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission as a bridge officer. He was the son of the late Harry and Anna Van Splinter DeWitt Sr., widower of Alice Wilson DeWitt and Marlene Kollmer DeWitt and brother of the late Ralph, John and William DeWitt. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and John Grady of New Hope; one son, Doug DeWitt of Asheville, N.C.; his stepchildren and their spouses, Thomas and Dawn Bigley of Ringoes, Mimi and Bill Seachrist of Springfield Township, Pa., and James and Danae Bigley of Riegelsville, Pa.; one brother, Charles DeWitt of Barefoot Bay, Fla.; his grandchildren, Sara and her husband, Kevin Snyder, Deb Grady, Clint DeWitt, Emily Wintermute and Tommy and Cole Bigley; his great grandson, Luke Snyder; one niece; and one nephew. https://archive.centraljersey.com/2006/11/29/obituaries-nov-30-2006/
